It is common to have feelings of anxiety and depression. To some, this may look like an inability to get yourself to complete everyday tasks, not wanting to be around others, or it may be felt in the body with sensations like rapid breathing, a racing heart, sweating, or shakiness. This is your body reacting to your thoughts. Sometimes our unconscious mind takes control of our thoughts and takes over our body, which can cause a great deal of stress.
Through doing exercises to ground yourself, you are able to take control of your thoughts once again, which will also calm your body. The inability to be present in the moment is usually due to racing thoughts, which is fairly common. By engaging in exercises such as mindfulness, belly breathing, guided imagery, mindfulness walking, and more, you will be able to be fully engaged in the moment. Learning the skill of mindfulness can also include being more mindful of sensations in your body, learning how to take control of your breathing, or being able to savor the moment. Throughout our time together in therapy and the mindfulness exercises and tools will explore, you will be able to reconnect with yourself and find peace from within.
Another area to focus on, in order to gain peace of mind, which also goes in line with being able to get a better understanding of the unconscious mind, is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The exercises in CBT allow the individual to look at their thoughts, challenge them, and learn how to move on from those unhealthy thoughts in a healthy way. Facing those thoughts by yourself can be confusing and scary. With this approach we can face them together and learn. This theory, that will be introduced during your therapy session, is aimed at improving your quality of life by improving your thought processes.
Everyone has different experiences throughout life. Even if some experiences may seem similar to someone else's, not everyone experiences events the same way. Through a collaborative process, we will develop a personalized treatment plan with goals tailored to each individual’s unique experiences and needs.
